Interactions: | Erythromycin
Adverse Effect: exacerbation of vinblastine toxicity (neutropenia, myalgia, constipation) Clinical Management: If concomitant therapy is deemed necessary, monitor patients for severe myalgia and neutropenia. Alternatively, consider using azithromycin.
Itraconazole
Adverse Effect: an increased risk of neurotoxicity and paralytic ileus Clinical Management: Patients who receive vinca alkaloids and itraconazole concurrently should be monitored for the development of neurotoxicity.
Mitomycin
Adverse Effect: pulmonary toxicity (pulmonary edema) Clinical Management: The potential hazards of administering these two drugs together should be realized. Patients should be monitored for severe and life-threatening bronchospasm.
Phenytoin
Adverse Effect: decreased phenytoin effectiveness Clinical Management: Consider monitoring serum phenytoin levels during courses of chemotherapy.
Zidovudine
Adverse Effect: hematologic toxicity (neutropenia) Clinical Management: If concomitant use of vinblastine and zidovudine is necessary, temporary withdrawal or dose reductions of vinblastine is recommended |
