Cimetidine
Adverse Effect: pentoxifylline toxicity (flushing, hypotension, seizures) Clinical Management: Monitor for pentoxifylline toxicity (eg, flushing, hypotension, or seizures) and adjust the dose accordingly. Suggest switching to another H2-antagonist (eg, ranitidine or famotidine) which has less potential to alter the metabolism of pentoxifylline.
Theophylline
Adverse Effect: an increased risk of theophylline toxicity (nausea, vomiting, palpitations, seizures) Clinical Management: Theophylline serum concentrations should be closely monitored when Pentoxyfylline is added, discontinued, or when dosing changes occur. Dosing adjustments of theophylline may be necessary. |
