Antacids containing aluminum, cal-cium, magnesium; laxatives containing magne-sium:Decreased oral absorption of doxycycline because of chelation. Monitor child for effects.
Carbamarepine, phenobarbital: May cause de-creased antibiotic effect. Monitor child for ef-fects.
Digoxin: Increased bioavailability. Concomitant use requires lowered dosages of digoxin.
Methoxyflurane: May cause nephrotoxicity with tetracyclines. Use cautiously together; monitor renal function.
Oral anticoagulants: Enhanced effects. Con-comitant use requires lowered dosage of oral an-ticoagulants.
Oral iron products, sodium bicarbonate, zinc: Im-paired absorption of tetracyclines. Use cautiously and monitor child for effects.
Penicillin: May antagonize bactericidal effects of penicillin, inhibiting cell growth. Administer peni-cillin 2 to 3 hours before doxycycline. Drug-lifestyle. Alcohol: May decrease antibiot-ic effect. Discourage use. |
