Interactions:

Atorvastatin

  • Adverse Effect: Myopathy including Rhabdomyolysis
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the adverse effects and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors like Atorvastatin/Cerivastatin should be used with caution.

    Didanosine

  • Adverse Effect: Absorption of both drugs will be hindered if administered together
  • Clinical Management: Indinavir should be administered on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before Didanosine.

    Diltiazem

  • Adverse Effect: increase in the Plasma concentration of Calcium Channel Blockers like Diltiazem due to inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the adverse effect and administer the drugs with caution.

    Efavirenz

  • Adverse Effect: Decrease in plasma concentration of Indinavir
  • Clinical Management: Indinavir dose has to be increased to 1000 mg every 8 hours when given with Efavirenz.

    Felodipine

  • Adverse Effect: increase in the Plasma concentration of Calcium Channel Blockers like Felodipine due to inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the adverse effect and administer the drugs with caution.

    Itraconazole

  • Adverse Effect: Increase in the Plasma concentration of Indinavir
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for therapeutic effect and decrease the dose of Indinavir if required.

    Ketoconazole

  • Adverse Effect: increase in the Plasma concentration of Indinavir
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for therapeutic effect and decrease the dose of Indinavir if required.

    Nevirapine

  • Adverse Effect: Decrease in plasma concentration of Indinavir
  • Clinical Management: Clinical effects is not known, adjust the dose accordingly.

    Rifampicin

  • Adverse Effect: decrease in the Plasma concentration of Indinavir markedly
  • Clinical Management: Avoid the concomitant use if possible.

    Verapamil

  • Adverse Effect: increase in the Plasma concentration of Calcium Channel Blockers like Verapamil due to inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the adverse effect and administer the drugs with caution.
