Interactions:
Antacids, cholestyramine, cimeti-dine, vitamin E: May decrease ferrous fumarale absorption.

Separate doses by 1 to 2 hours. Chloramphenicol: Delayed response to iron ther-apy. Monitor child for desired effects.

Doxycycline: May interfere with ferrous fumarate absorption even when doses are separated. Watch for desired effects.

Levodopa, methyldopa: May decrease absorp-tion and efficacy of these drugs. Avoid concomi-tant use.

L-thyroxine: May decrease L-thyroxine absorp-tion. Separate doses by at least 2 hours; moni-tor thyroid function.

Penicillamine: Decreased absorption. Separate doses by at least 2 hours.

Quinolones: May decrease absorption of quino-lones. Monitor child closely.

Tetracycline: Inhibited absorption of both drugs. Avoid concomitant use and give tetracycline 3 hours after or 2 hours before iron.

Vitamin C: May increase iron absorption. Bene-ficial drug interaction.

Drug-food:
Cereals, cheese, coffee, eggs, milk, tea, whole-grain breads, yogurt: May impair oral iron absorption. Dont administer together. Tell child to avoid these foods.
