Interactions: | Drug-drug.
Amoxicillin, ampicillin: Concomitant use may cause rash. Monitor patient.
Azathioprine, mercaptopurine: May increase tox-ic effects of these drugs, particularly bone mar-row depression. Combined use of these drugs requires reduction of initial doses of azathioprine or mercaptopurine to 25% to 33% of usual dose, with subsequent doses adjusted according to children response and toxic effects.
Chlorpropamide: Allopurinol or its metabolites may compete for renal tubular secretion. Watch for signs of excessive hypoglycemia.
Co-trimoxazole: Concomitant use has been as-sociated with thrombocytopenia. Monitor children carefully.
Cyclophosphamide: May cause bone marrow depression. Use together cautiously.
Dicumarol: Concurrent use inhibits hepatic mi-crosomal metabolism of dicumarol, thus increasing its half-life. Watch for increased antico-agulant effects.
Theophylline: May increase plasma theophylline levels. Monitor theophylline levels.
Thiazide diuretic: May increase risk of allopurinol- induced hypersensitivity reactions in childrens with decreased renal function. Use with caution. |
