Interactions: | Antacids Comb.
Adverse Effect: decreased tetracycline effectiveness Clinical Management: Concurrent administration of tetracycline and antacids is not recommended. If concurrent use cannot be avoided, tetracycline should be taken at least one to three hours before antacids.
Benzathine Penicillin
Adverse Effect: decreased antibacterial effectiveness Clinical Management: If possible avoid this drug combination. Monitor decreased antibacterial efficacy.
Benzyl Penicillin
Adverse Effect: decreased antibacterial effectiveness Clinical Management: If possible avoid this drug combination. Monitor decreased antibacterial efficacy.
Digoxin
Adverse Effect: digoxin toxicity (nausea, vomiting, cardiac arrhythmias) Clinical Management: If concurrent therapy is required, monitor for digoxin toxicity. A dosage adjustment for digoxin may be required.
Lithium
Adverse Effect: Lithium toxicity (drowsiness, slurred speech, tremor, polydipsia) Clinical Management: Monitor patient for clinical and laboratory evidence of lithium toxicity, and potential sources of sodium imbalance (diet, adequate fluid intake, diarrhea). Adjust or hold lithium dose as needed.
Penicillin V ( Phenoxymethyl )
Concomitant tetracycline and penicillin therapy may in certain instances result in antagonism of penicillin antibacterial effects
Phenindione
Adverse Effect: An increased risk of bleeding Clinical Management: In patients receiving oral anticoagulant therapy with phenindione, the prothrombin time ratio or INR (international normalized ratio) should be closely monitored with the addition and withdrawal of treatment with tetracycline, and should be reassessed periodically during concurrent therapy. Adjustments of the phenindione dose may be necessary in order to maintain the desired level of anticoagulation.
Pipecuronium
Adverse Effect: Significant increase in the therapeutic effect of Pipecuronium # Clinical Management: Monitor for the therapeutic effect and adjust the dose accordingly.
Piperacillin
Adverse Effect: decreased antibacterial effectiveness Clinical Management: If possible avoid this drug combination. Monitor decreased antibacterial efficacy.
Procaine Penicillin
Adverse Effect: Decreased antibacterial effectiveness Clinical Management: If possible avoid this drug combination. Monitor decreased antibacterial efficacy.
Warfarin
