| ORAL:HYPERTHYROID PRE.OP PREPARATIONS:8mg Iodine/5ml solution (Stock Solution).
5-10ml diluted in water, tid consecutively for 10-14 days prior to start of surgery, co-administered with Antithyroid drugs.
Rx. THYROID CRISIS:50-100mg bid, by Potassium Iodide, Oral or Nasogastric Route. Stop after 10 days & maintain on Antithyroid Drugs.
Px. IN ENDEMIC GOITRE AREA:20mg of Potassium Iodide/kg of salt.
PREVENTION OF RADIOACTIVE IODINE UPTAKE BY THYROID:With the use of Radioactive Iodine Labelled Albumin or Fibrogen, a substantial part of Iodine is taken up by Thyroid. 30mg of Potassium Iodide as Single dose followed by 15 mg daily for 7 days or more can prevent the Radio-Iodine uptake by Thyroid. |
