Interactions:
Acetazolamide: May increase serum ephedrine levels. Avoid concomitant use.

Alpha blockers, guanethidine: May decrease vasopressor effects of ephedrine. Monitor child closely.

Antihypertensives: May decrease effects. Moni-tor blood pressure.

Atropine: Blocked reflex bradycardia and en-hanced pressor effects. Monitor child closely.

Beta-blockers: May block CV and bronchodilat-ing effects of ephedrine. Monitor child.

Cardiac glycosides, general anesthetics (espe-cially cyclopropane, halothane): May sensitize myocardium to effects of ephedrine, causing ar-rhythmias. Monitor child closely.

Diuretics, methyldopa, reserpine: May decrease ephedrines pressor effects. Monitor child.

Ergot alkaloids: May enhance vasoconstrictor ac-tivity. Avoid concomitant use.

Levodopa: May enhance risk of ventricular ar-rhythmias. Monitor child closely.

MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants: May potentiate pressor effects of ephedrine, possibly resulting in hypertensive crisis. Allow 14 days to lapse after withdrawal of MAO inhibitor before us-ing ephedrine.

Sympathomimetics: May add to their effects and toxicity. Avoid concomitant use.

Theophylline derivatives: Co-administration re-portedly causes more adverse reactions than with either drug used alone. Avoid concomitant use.
