Albendazole
Adverse Effect: An increased risk of albendazole adverse effects Clinical Management: Monitor patients for excessive albendazole adverse effects (nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and abnormal liver function tests).
Carbamazepine
Adverse Effect: decreased praziquantel effectiveness Clinical Management: If concomitant use is necessary, an increased dose of praziquantel may be required to be clinically effective.
Chloroquine
Adverse Effect: decreased praziquantel bioavailability Clinical Management: Dose increases of praziquantel should be considered in patients receiving chloroquine, especially if the patient does not respond to initial treatment with praziquantel.
Cimetidine
Adverse Effect: Increased praziquantel concentrations Clinical Management: Monitor for signs of praziquantel toxicity (eg, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea & vomiting) and adjust the dose accordingly. If concurrent use cannot be avoided, select another H2-antagonist (eg, ranitidine or famotidine) that has less potential to alter drug metabolism.
Phenytoin
Adverse Effect: decreased praziquantel effectiveness Clinical Management: If concomitant use is necessary, an increased dose of praziquantel may be required to be clinically effective |
