Bupivacaine Comb.
Adverse Effect: an increase in central nervous system and respiratory depression Clinical Management: Monitor patients for signs of respiratory depression, CNS depression, and hypotension. A dosage reduction or discontinuation of one or both drugs may be necessary.
Cetirizine + Phenylpropanolamine + Paracetamol Comb.
Adverse Effect: cardiovascular instability, hyperpyrexia, coma, or death Clinical Management: The combination of meperidine and furazolidone should be avoided. Morphine may be a therapeutic alternative to meperidine, though lower doses of this agent, as well as careful monitoring, should be considered.
Cimetidine
Adverse Effect: meperidine toxicity (respiratory depression, CNS depression, hypotension) Clinical Management: Monitor for signs of meperidine toxicity (eg, respiratory depression, CNS depression, and hypotension) and adjust the dose accordingly. Cimetidine should not be used concurrently with meperidine
Fluphenazine
Adverse Effect: an increase in central nervous system and respiratory depression Clinical Management: Monitor patients for signs of respiratory depression, CNS depression, and hypotension. A dosage reduction or discontinuation of one or both drugs may be necessary.
INH
Adverse Effect: hypotension and central nervous system depression Clinical Management: Avoid the concurrent use of Pethidine and isoniazid. If these two agents must be used together, monitor the patient for blood pressure control and excessive central nervous system depression.
Phenytoin
Adverse Effect: Decreased Pethidine effectiveness Clinical Management: To gain satisfactory analgesia, patients on long term phenytoin therapy may require more frequent and larger parenteral dose of Pethidine .
Selegiline
Adverse Effect: cardiovascular instability, hyperpyrexia, coma Clinical Management: Pethidine use is contraindicated during or within 14 days of administration of Selegiline .
Thioridazine
Adverse Effect: an increase in central nervous system and respiratory depression Clinical Management: Monitor patients for signs of respiratory depression, CNS depression, and hypotension. A dosage reduction or discontinuation of one or both drugs may be necessary.
Tramadol
Adverse Effect: CNS depression (sedation, lethargy, speech difficulties) Clinical Management: Use caution if tramadol is to be used concomitantly in patients receiving meperidine therapy. Monitor patients for signs of CNS depression (sedation, lethargy, speech difficulties) and adjust doses accordingly. The manufacturer recommends that reduced dosages of tramadol be used when it is coadministered with other CNS depressants.
Trifluoperazine
Adverse Effect: Increase in central nervous system and respiratory depression Clinical Management: Monitor patients for signs of respiratory depression, CNS depression, and hypotension. A dosage reduction or discontinuation of one or both drugs may be necessary. |
