Interactions:

Felodipine

  • Adverse Effect Hypotension
  • Clinical Management Monitor blood pressure closely when adding or deleting Felodipine in patients receiving magnesium.

    Gentamicin

  • Adverse Effect Neuromuscular weakness
  • Clinical Management Monitor patients for respiratory dysfunction and apnea. If neuromuscular blockade occurs, discontinue Gentamicin and change antibiotic therapy. Patients receiving large cumulative dose of Gentamicin should have serum calcium, magnesium, potassium, and creatinine monitored.

    Netilmicin

  • Adverse Effect Neuromuscular weakness
  • Clinical Management Monitor patients for respiratory dysfunction and apnea. If neuromuscular blockade occurs, discontinue the Netilmicin and change antibiotic therapy. Patients receiving large cumulative doses of Netilmicin should have serum calcium, magnesium, potassium, and creatinine monitored.

    Nifedipine

  • Adverse Effect Hypotension
  • Clinical Management Monitor blood pressure closely when adding or deleting calcium channel blocker therapy in patients receiving magnesium.

    Streptomycin

  • Adverse Effect Neuromuscular weakness
  • Clinical Management Monitor patients for respiratory dysfunction and apnea. If neuromuscular blockade occurs, discontinue Streptomycin and change antibiotic therapy. Patients receiving large cumulative doses of aminoglycosides should have serum calcium, magnesium, potassium, and creatinine monitored.

    Succinyl Choline

  • Adverse Effect Enhanced neuromuscular blockade
  • Clinical Management The dose of succinylcholine may need to be adjusted downward in patients receiving large doses of magnesium salts.

    Tobramycin

  • Adverse Effect Neuromuscular weakness
  • Clinical Management Monitor patients for respiratory dysfunction and apnea. If neuromuscular blockade occurs, discontinue Tobramycin and change antibiotic therapy. Patients receiving large cumulative doses of Tobramycin should have serum calcium, magnesium, potassium, and creatinine monitored.

    Vecuronium

  • Adverse Effect Enhanced neuromuscular blockade
  • Clinical Management The dose of vecuronium may need to be adjusted downward in patients receiving large doses of magnesium salts administered for toxemia of pregnancy.
